What Are the Most Important Component Of A Refrigeration Unit

When we hear the word refrigeration, we generally think of a unit that helps to keep our food cold & fresh. In fact, one of the greatest engineering accomplishments over the decades has been the development & evolution of refrigeration

Refrigeration involves the exclusion of heat from objects, spaces or materials while sustaining their temperature below the surrounding atmosphere. However, refrigeration wouldn’t exist without these below listed basic components:

Expansion Valve:

Placed at the end of the liquid line, expansion valve is a device that controls the amount of refrigerant that flows to the evaporator. It plays the role of throttle & depressurization. Also, the device helps in separating the high pressure & the low pressure sides of an air conditioning system.

Evaporator:

The main function of the evaporator is to eliminate the unnecessary heat from the product via liquid refrigerants. To achieve heat transfer, the liquid refrigerant must be lower than the products being cooled. After the transfer, liquid refrigerant is drawn by the compressor from the evaporator via a suction line. Liquid refrigerant will be in vapour form upon leaving the evaporator coil.

Compressor:

This draw low-temperature & low-pressure vapour from the evaporator via the suction line. In simple terms, a compressor can convert low-temperature to high temperature, which can be the cause of an increase in pressure. Heat can be easily released through a compressor.

Condenser:

The main purpose of condenser is to liquefy the refrigerant gas drawn by the compressor from the evaporator. As condensation starts, the heat will flow from the condenser into the air, only if the condensation temperature is higher than the atmosphere. The high-pressure vapour in the condenser will be cooled to become a liquid refrigerant again. The liquid refrigerant will then flow from the condenser to a liquid line.
